"You're invited to a very important date"

Alice in Wonderland is about a young girl who falls down a rabbit hole and finds herself in a fantasy world. While the story may be familiar to many as a childhood story, this version weaves a far greater tale of whimsy, conflict, and true imaginings. A coming of age story, Alice finds herself back in Wonderland after not remembering her first trip, hence needing creatures and friends to help her realize she in fact the real Alice.

Alice, while taken aback by fear and the unknown in this seemingly new world, is forced to learn about herself and what she is capable of saving and creating, both in Wonderland and her real life. Faced with the realization that she must marry someone she does not love for money, she is in Wonderland to explore her own ideals about her life while tasked with saving the lives of the good people and creatures in Wonderland from an evil queen. Riddled with comedy from both Alice and the inhabitants of Wonderland, the movie takes viewers on a journey with Alice as a great companion.

What perhaps is Alice's greatest struggle is all of the challenges she faces while in Wonderland, that she must remember where she came from to know where she is going, and that she must learn to confront her greatest fears to grow into the girl she wishes to be. Whether in Wonderland or back in her life, she must learn that lesson to be successful. The journey in Wonderland directly parallels her factual life, Alice looking for something more than marrying a man for his money. Until she has success in Wonderland, she cannot expect to be a success in her life. Her urge to explore and be an innovator is explored in Wonderland, and leads her to make the decisions she does when she returns to England.

Using a mixture of computer technology and graphic arts, the cinematography of the movie is an impressive display of talent and elevates the childhood tale into something that everyone can enjoy, young and old. The more adult themes of the movie prove that a fairy tale can in fact be told with poignancy and beauty.
